カナダ在住の友人が日本へ送金するのでと質問したら、tranferwiseから回答が届きました。
いつも通りの的確な回答です。
また日本人担当者もはたらいているので、日本語で質問もできます。

Thank you for getting in touch and apologies for taking a bit long to get back to you.
When sending money to Japan, one does not need to supply a My Number Card or any specific Japanese ID documents. In this particular case our verification rules for Canadian Dollar payments apply instead:
If your friend’s profile address with us is in Canada, and he is planning to make a transfer larger than 1000 CAD, then we may ask for an attested copy of their ID document. You can read about document certification here (feel free to forward the link to your friend).
If your friend’s profile address is in any other country, and the transfer is larger than 1000 CAD, then we will ask for any valid ID document. In that case, their Japanese passport would be quite sufficient.
